Fluency

This movie is a recording of two different students reading aloud. All second graders have to read 90 or more words a minute to meet district and state standards. This is called fluency. Fluencey includes phrasing, smoothness, intonation, and pace. Students are being taught to read a group of words together, phrasing; matching their voice emotion to the written text, intonation; and reading quickly, pace. Inorder to be able to accomplish this, students need to have a large sight vocabulary and not have to decode most words in the texts they are reading.
