Valentine Boxes #3
Valentine Boxes #2
My Valentine box has beautiful valentine feathers. It has wedding roses. My box has sparkly glitter. It has sparkly XOXOXOXOXOXO’s. My valentine box has red glittery lace. My valentine box is red and pink I love you paper. It has flowery stickers. It has a big hole so I can put my valentines in there. And its definitely distinctive.
My box has yellow, purple, pink, and white candy hearts on top. It has wrapping paper all around it. It has XOXO on it and XO scissors, big curly bow, a heart ribbon, a red ribbon, and heart stickers, too. It was just a plain old ordinary box but now it’s… HISTORY. Happy Valentine’s Day

Building a Timeline
As an introduction to timelines, we listened to the story of Miss Rumphius's life. The students divided her life up into illustratable parts and created this photo timeline. They thought their results were, "Awesome." The original will be hanging in the hallway at school if you would like to study it more closely.

Fluency
This movie is a recording of two different students reading aloud. All second graders have to read 90 or more words a minute to meet district and state standards. This is called fluency. Fluencey includes phrasing, smoothness, intonation, and pace. Students are being taught to read a group of words together, phrasing; matching their voice emotion to the written text, intonation; and reading quickly, pace. Inorder to be able to accomplish this, students need to have a large sight vocabulary and not have to decode most words in the texts they are reading.
Retelling Grandad
This student is retelling Grandad by Pauline Cartwright. Every child in second grade has to be able to retell stories that they have read in sequential order including the setting, plot, events details, solution, characters, and characters traits. This student volunteered to do a retelling with the video camera recording her throughout the entire process. Nice work!
