This is the most distinctive box ever. It is filled with giant hearts. The ribbon has giant flowers, tiny jewels, and prickly flowers. Pixie dust is all over the hearts. The hearts are the smoothest, too. Cupids are noticeable. My heart flowers are all around it with rose flowers and distinctive leaves. Polk-a-dots are covering my hearts. Lace is covering the ribbon on my prettiest box in the world. My box is distinctive.

My Valentine’s box is big and it has hearts on it ── even gold hearts, too. Its 4 inches. That is big for a box and says, "Happy Valentine’s Day.”

My bag is red. My bag can fold and open. It says my name on it. It is white inside. It has a loop on top. It is small and it has nothing on it.

My box has 3 red bows. It also has pink paper on it. And it has red and gold glitter on it. It has different color hearts. But most of all it is distinctive. It is as pretty as a rose. It is a pretty as a flower. I love my box. I think my box is the best.

My box has sparkly, shiny glitter on it. It has large white hearts on it. It has lots of hearts on it. My box has a rose on it. My box has happy Valentines’ Day. It has a pattern on it. It has a red border around it. My box has a heart of fun! My box has sweet heart on it. My box has a big heart on the side. It has a heart pattern. My box is distinctive.

Building a Timeline

As an introduction to timelines, we listened to the story of Miss Rumphius's life. The students divided her life up into illustratable parts and created this photo timeline. They thought their results were, "Awesome." The original will be hanging in the hallway at school if you would like to study it more closely.

Fluency

This movie is a recording of two different students reading aloud. All second graders have to read 90 or more words a minute to meet district and state standards. This is called fluency. Fluencey includes phrasing, smoothness, intonation, and pace. Students are being taught to read a group of words together, phrasing; matching their voice emotion to the written text, intonation; and reading quickly, pace. Inorder to be able to accomplish this, students need to have a large sight vocabulary and not have to decode most words in the texts they are reading.

Retelling Grandad

This student is retelling Grandad by Pauline Cartwright. Every child in second grade has to be able to retell stories that they have read in sequential order including the setting, plot, events details, solution, characters, and characters traits. This student volunteered to do a retelling with the video camera recording her throughout the entire process. Nice work!
